Mount Sinai – Division of General Pediatrics

On July 2004, the Division of General Pediatrics held its inaugural retreat since Dr. Danielle Laraque took on the role of the Division Chief. Held at the New York Botanical Garden, the retreat was attended by an interdisciplinary faculty and was an opportunity for the division as a whole and its affiliates to reflect on the previous year’s clinical, academic/teaching and research activities as well as to discuss future endeavors. As the featured speaker of the retreat, Dr. Thomas DeWitt from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine gave grand rounds on “What’s New in Medical Education” and facilitated the day’s activities. Presentations on the three principal activities of the division—clinical programs, teaching programs and research—was provided. The latter part of the day was spent in breakout groups focusing on one of these three aspects.

The retreat has since become an annual event, the most recent having taken place on July 11, 2006 at the newly remodeled 8th floor conference room of 1184 5th Avenue. The day’s agenda included presentations updating attendees of the clinical programs, teaching activities and research within the division. A fourth principal activity—advocacy and community pediatrics—was also featured as well as a presentation on physician compensation. During the latter half of the day, the emphasis shifted to faculty development. Attendees were oriented on how to develop and implement individual academic plans, participated in breakout sessions and came together again for discussions.

Please feel free to review the presentations given during the retreat on July 11, 2006.
